Tips for Non-Profit and Social Service Marketing

Non-profit and social-service organizations need to tap every available resource in order to raise the appropriate funds, especially by utilizing their own web site.  Below are some suggestions to consider when writing grants, creating budgets, or making appeals to private donors to update and improve your site.

-Blog
A blog is an easy way to regularly update relevant information about your organization.  You will be able to draw your target audience to your site and establish rapport with them with each new post, personalizing your organization while providing a much-needed fluid connection to users.

-Calendar of Events
A calendar can feature events and meetings with downloadable documents (PDF, word docs, etc) with individual announcements, agendas, and meeting minutes for users to access.  Your website works 24 hours 7 days a week, and can answer questions when your offices are closed or your phone lines are busy.  It can publicize your event for anyone on the World Wide Web to attend.  October 25 was National Make A Difference Day –were people able to easily find out how you are making a difference?

-Email Marketing Services
With the focus on creating and maintaining a sustainable environment, having an email marketing service can be a two-fold benefit. By implementing an email campaign, you don’t have to pay printing or mailing cost.  In addition, you’re not creating paper waste with the soft transfer of information.

-Membership System
You can sign up and maintain user information within a single database.  It’s important to build relationships with supporters.  Having a membership system allows you to keep them informed; even if they weren’t available to make it to last month’s meeting, or catch a phone call update.

-Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing is the process of promoting your site or business through social media sites (i.e. LinkedIn, Facebook, or Plaxo) by creating a profile, and posting your own unique content.  One of the main benefits of social media marketing is that links on these sites can drive primary traffic straight to your site, or gather secondary traffic from people who have found your site and linked to it through the social media site.

I definitely agree with many of these things. Non-profit organizations, mainly ones that are based on helping the earth or helping sick/homeless populations definitely should have a calendar of possible support events or anything like that. Hopefully it would turn out to make the world a better place!
